When Tess and Brian began planning their retirement in Cancún, they knew their cats’ move would require just as much care as their own.
The family originally planned to relocate with four cats: Liberty, Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher. Tess contacted Cabin Companions well in advance, giving us plenty of time to develop a thoughtful route from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to their new home in Mexico.
Planning a Multi-Cat Journey
Moving several cats internationally involves much more than booking a flight. We needed a plan for collecting the cats in Atlantic City, positioning everyone near the departure airport, managing an overnight stay, and flying to Cancún the following morning.
Our plan called for two Cabin Companions travelers to meet Brian at the family’s home in Atlantic City. From there, we would bring the cats to a pet-friendly hotel near Philadelphia International Airport and remain with them overnight.
Staying close to the airport would make departure morning calmer and more organized while allowing the cats to remain under our direct supervision.
Remembering Liberty
Several weeks before our scheduled pickup—and while all four cats were still at home with their family—Liberty sadly passed away.
By the time our team arrived in Atlantic City in November 2025, Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher were the three cats scheduled to travel. Knowing what Tess and Brian had recently experienced made us especially mindful of providing a calm, secure journey for each of them.
Brian entrusted Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher to our care, and we began the first stage of their trip to Philadelphia.
From Philadelphia to Cancún
We stayed with the cats overnight near Philadelphia International Airport, giving everyone time to settle before the morning flight.
The next day, Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher traveled securely in their individual carriers and remained under our supervision throughout the airport and flight experience. Although we encountered some airport delays, the overall journey went smoothly.
We monitored the cats closely, kept them comfortable, and handled every stage of the trip together.
A Family Reunited in Mexico
After landing in Cancún and exiting the airport, we met Tess outside with Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher safely in our care.
The reunion marked the end of a carefully planned international journey and the beginning of the family’s new life together in Mexico. After months of preparation, Tess and Brian finally had Chelsea, Dusty, and Dasher with them in their new home.
For us, that moment is what pet travel is all about: keeping beloved animals safe and helping families begin their next chapter together.
