Flying Two Cats to Mexico: Tommy & Sneakers’ Journey From Charlottesville to Querétaro

When Melissa prepared to relocate from Virginia to Querétaro, Mexico, she knew she wanted Tommy and Sneakers beside her—but managing two cats through multiple airports, international travel requirements, and a long day of connections felt overwhelming.

Cabin Companions traveled alongside Melissa and her cats from the moment we met at Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport until her husband welcomed all three of them in Querétaro.

Along the way, we handled airport navigation, airline coordination, security, layovers, an unexpected two-hour delay, and the many small details that helped Tommy, Sneakers, and their owner feel supported throughout the journey.

An Early Start in Charlottesville

We met Melissa, Tommy, and Sneakers at Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport at 5:00 a.m., giving us plenty of time to check in, confirm both cats’ reservations, review their travel documents, and move through security without rushing.

Traveling internationally with two cats involves more than simply arriving with carriers. Airline policies, documentation, security procedures, connection timing, and the cats’ comfort all need to be managed together.

From the beginning, Melissa had an experienced companion beside her to help carry supplies, communicate with airline staff, navigate the airport, and keep the morning calm and organized.

Two Cats, One Supported Journey

Tommy and Sneakers traveled alongside their owner throughout the journey while Cabin Companions provided hands-on guidance from departure to arrival.

Although both cats handled the trip well, Sneakers required scheduled medication during the day. Managing medications while navigating busy airports, boarding flights, and moving through multiple connections can be challenging, especially during international travel.

We made sure Sneakers received his medication on schedule while helping Melissa manage both carriers, their travel supplies, and the demands of a long travel day.

Along the way, Tommy and Sneakers also experienced an unexpected highlight—they tried Churu for the very first time.

Both became instant fans.

The treats provided a welcome distraction during layovers and helped create positive moments throughout the journey. They were such a hit that we sent the boys home to Mexico with a few extra tubes to enjoy as they settled into their new home.

Connections in Dulles and Houston

The itinerary included connections at Washington Dulles International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.

During each layover, we helped Melissa move between gates, manage both cats and their supplies, monitor the itinerary, and find comfortable places to rest before the next flight.

Houston brought an additional challenge when the final flight to Querétaro was delayed by approximately two hours.

Unexpected delays can be especially stressful when traveling internationally with pets. Instead of leaving Melissa to juggle updates, changing departure information, luggage, and two cats alone, we remained beside her throughout the wait.

We monitored the flight, helped keep Tommy and Sneakers comfortable, and made sure everyone was ready when boarding finally began.

Arriving in Querétaro

After a long day of travel, Melissa, Tommy, and Sneakers arrived safely in Querétaro.

Cabin Companions remained with them through arrival procedures, baggage collection, and the final walk through the airport. Our role did not end when the plane landed—we stayed until Melissa’s husband arrived to pick up the family and everyone was safely together.

Tommy and Sneakers had traveled internationally, navigated three airports, survived an extended delay, and discovered their new favorite treat.

Most importantly, they completed the entire journey alongside their owner, with experienced support available from beginning to end.
