Ana Maria’s family was preparing to relocate from San Francisco to Ohio with two young children. Their ten-year-old, 60-pound husky mix, Abby, had been diagnosed with lymphoma in 2023 but had been in remission for more than a year and was doing extremely well.
Although Abby’s internal-medicine veterinarian had cleared her to fly, she had never flown before, had not used a closed crate in years, and experienced some anxiety away from her family. After considering her medical history, size, temperament, and the family’s already complicated move, we identified private ground transportation as the most comfortable option.

Abby had the back of the vehicle to herself, with room to settle in and watch the country pass outside the window. We managed her medication and food carefully, stopped frequently, and adjusted the pace around her comfort.
She was incredibly sweet and handled the long trip beautifully. At our pet-friendly hotels, she slept at my feet. On the road, she mostly relaxed in the back of the car and watched through the window.
Home Earlier Than Expected
Abby traveled so well that we made excellent time and were able to bring her home a day earlier than planned. Her family—and her best dog friend—were waiting for a joyful reunion in Ohio.
