Lauren and her husband were moving from Washington, D.C., to Key West—and already had more than enough to manage. Their dogs, Penny and Sam, each weighed about 50 pounds, and one needed medication that made flying inappropriate. Airline size restrictions meant a standard in-cabin flight was not an option either.
Lauren initially encountered a flood of confusing and sometimes contradictory pet travel information. We helped her understand the workable options, answered her questions, and arranged a private ground journey so the family could fly to Florida while we took complete responsibility for the dogs’ move.
Penny & Sam’s Private Ground Journey

The Easiest Part of a Complicated Move
We picked Penny and Sam up on time in Washington and began the 1,200-mile drive south. Their family could follow the trip through AirTag tracking and received updates throughout the journey.
We selected a pet-friendly hotel roughly two-thirds of the way to Key West, giving the dogs a proper overnight break before the final stretch. They settled in easily and traveled so well that we made better time than expected.
Sunny Skies and a New Backyard
Less than 24 hours after leaving Washington, Penny and Sam arrived at their sunny new home in Key West—early, happy, and healthy. Our last view of them was exactly the one we hoped for: running around the yard together and eagerly exploring their new surroundings.
Lauren later wrote that Cabin Companions became the easiest part of the family’s move. She appreciated the itinerary updates, AirTag tracking, careful handling, and the individual report cards each dog received at arrival.
A major move demands hundreds of decisions. Taking the dogs’ transportation completely off the family’s plate allowed Lauren and her husband to focus on everything else, knowing Penny and Sam had one or more dedicated Cabin Companions caring for them from their old front door to their new backyard.

★★★★★“I'd give them more than 5 stars if I could. My husband and I moved from DC to Key West and due to a bunch of factors, we had to fly down. We have 2 dogs, one of them is on medication so she can't fly. Plus, they are each 50 pounds of their own brand of crazy. Sweet, but crazy. So, alright, they have to drive down. I found Cabin Companions and it became the easiest part of the trip. Of course, I was nervous. My two dogs. A stranger. 1200 miles to cover. For pickup, Gabe showed up right on time and my dogs immediately liked him (have to mention that because usually they don't). We got an air tag to track their trip and updates throughout their travels. He even showed up with them early which was amazing. AND each dog got a little report card about how they did. Super cute touch. You can tell he cared about my dogs as if they were his own. Their process of booking was easy. They took the time to speak with me and answered all of my questions. Worth every single penny. I can not recommend Cabin Companions enough. I'll be passing their information on to anyone who needs this type of service. Thank you for taking such great care of the dogs!”
