Arlington, Virginia to Salt Lake City, Utah: Max & Finn’s Cross-Country Cat Relocation Journey

When Max and Finn’s family prepared for their move from Virginia to Utah, their biggest concern wasn’t the packing or the logistics—it was making sure their two cats arrived safely and comfortably.

Having experienced travel-related concerns in the past, their family wanted extra support throughout the journey. From pre-flight planning and medication management to airport assistance and travel-day monitoring, Cabin Companions helped guide Max and Finn through a long day of travel from Arlington, Virginia, to their new home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

  • Pets: Max and Finn

Preparing for Cross-Country Travel

Every pet responds to travel differently, and Max and Finn’s family wanted to ensure both cats had the support they needed throughout the move.

Before departure, Cabin Companions worked with the family to review travel plans, carrier setup, medications, and airport procedures. Both cats traveled in airline-approved carriers and were equipped with properly fitted harnesses and safety restraints for security screenings and airport handling.

Because of previous travel concerns, special attention was given to medication timing and monitoring throughout the day. Our goal was simple: help Max and Finn remain comfortable, secure, and relaxed from departure through arrival.

A Long Travel Day

Travel days rarely go exactly as planned.

After departing the Washington, D.C. area, Max and Finn encountered delays, extended waits, and additional time on the tarmac. Throughout the journey, both cats were carefully monitored and remained remarkably calm despite the unexpected changes to the schedule.

Medication management was adjusted as needed during the trip, and both cats continued to settle comfortably in their carriers. Finn, the outgoing orange tabby, spent much of the journey quietly observing his surroundings, while Max remained relaxed and content throughout the day.

Despite the long hours, both cats handled the trip exceptionally well.

One of the most memorable moments of the journey came after arrival, when Max and Finn patiently waited their turn for the litter box before continuing their exploration of their new home.

A few reassuring chin scratches and a familiar voice can go a long way during travel. Max remained calm and comfortable throughout the journey, even during delays and extended waits.

Arrival in Salt Lake City

After a long day of travel, the moment everyone was waiting for finally arrived.

Max and Finn reached their new home in Salt Lake City safely and immediately began exploring their surroundings. Any concerns their family had about the journey quickly disappeared as both cats adjusted comfortably to their new environment.

One moment stood out in particular.

After arriving home, both cats patiently waited their turn to use the litter box—a first for our team and a sign that, despite the long travel day, they were already settling into their new routine.

Within hours, they were exploring, relaxing, and making themselves at home.
