New Jersey to Mexico: Bindi & Semka’s International Cat Relocation Journey
International pet travel is often easier when pets can stay with the people they know and trust. For Bindi and Semka’s move from the United States to Mexico, Cabin Companions worked alongside their owner to help ensure both cats could remain safely in cabin throughout the journey.
From travel preparation and documentation guidance to airport assistance and in-flight support, our goal was to make the relocation as smooth and stress-free as possible for both cats and their owner.
Journey Snapshot
- Route: Newark, New Jersey → Houston, Texas → Querétaro, Mexico
- Service: International Cat Relocation Support
- Pets: Bindi and Semka
- Special Considerations:International documentation, customs clearance, medication schedule, in-cabin travel for two cats
Preparing for International Travel
Before travel day, Cabin Companions worked closely with the owner to prepare for the journey. International pet travel requires careful attention to health certificates, vaccination records, airline requirements, and destination-country regulations.
Because there were two cats traveling, Cabin Companions accompanied the owner on the trip so that both cats could remain in cabin for the entire journey. One cat traveled with the owner while the second traveled with a Cabin Companions escort.
We also supplied and coordinated many of the travel essentials used throughout the trip, including harnesses and leashes, pee pads, treats, and airport travel supplies. Throughout the journey, we assisted with security screening, monitored both cats, and helped ensure everything stayed on schedule.
From Newark to Mexico
The journey began at Newark Liberty International Airport, where we met Bindi, Semka, and their owner before departure.
Both cats handled the airport environment remarkably well. Security screening went smoothly, and the cats remained calm and cooperative throughout the process.
After arriving in Houston, the trip encountered a several-hour delay before the international flight to Mexico. Rather than spending the delay in a crowded gate area, we were able to wait comfortably in the United Club, giving both cats a quieter and more relaxed environment between flights.
During the layover, we continued monitoring both cats and administered a scheduled dose of gabapentin to help maintain their comfort during the remainder of the trip. Bindi was especially relaxed and even enjoyed some Churu treats while waiting for the next flight.
Despite the long travel day, both cats remained exceptionally calm. There was barely a sound from either traveler throughout the journey, and they handled every stage of the trip with ease.
Every successful international pet relocation starts long before boarding. Careful planning, airline coordination, and the right paperwork helped make Bindi and Semka’s journey to Mexico a smooth one.
While waiting for our connection in Houston, Bindi took a break for one of her favorite travel traditions: Churu in the United Club. She handled the entire journey like a seasoned traveler.
Arrival in Querétaro & A Successful New Beginning
Upon arrival in Querétaro, the final step was clearing customs and veterinary inspection.
The documentation package that had been prepared before travel was presented to Mexican authorities for review. After examining the paperwork and completing the required inspection process, officials cleared both cats for entry into Mexico.
With the formalities complete, Bindi, Semka, and their owner were able to continue on to their new home together.
Bindi and Semka proved to be outstanding travelers from start to finish. Despite flight delays, multiple airports, customs inspections, and an international border crossing, both cats remained calm, quiet, and adaptable throughout the journey.
For their owner, the move to Mexico represented an exciting new chapter. We were honored to help make sure these two feline family members arrived safely and comfortably by her side every step of the way.
WHY IN-CABIN TRAVEL AND TRAVELING TOGETHER HELPED
Many international travelers are surprised to learn that airline pet limits can make relocating multiple cats challenging when only one person is traveling.
By having both the owner and a Cabin Companions escort accompany the cats, Bindi and Semka were able to remain in cabin with trusted companions throughout the entire journey. This approach eliminated the need for cargo transport while also providing an extra set of experienced hands to assist with paperwork, airport navigation, security screening, medication schedules, and customs procedures.
For international relocations, that added support can make a significant difference in reducing stress for both pets and people.
During our extended layover in Houston, Bindi and Semka relaxed quietly in their carriers while waiting for the next flight to Mexico. Carrier covers can help reduce visual stimulation and create a calmer environment during busy travel days.
