Five Cats’ Journey: Fresno, California → Nashville, Tennessee

Five cats, three custom enclosures, Route 66, and an Airbnb layover turned a difficult cross-country move into a comfortable private journey.

When a family prepared to move from Fresno, California to just outside Nashville, they faced one enormous question: how do you safely move five cats across the country?

Five cats exceed the practical pet capacity of most domestic flights, and separating them among different journeys would create additional stress and handling. Private ground transport allowed all five to stay together while giving us the time and space to make them comfortable.

Route: Fresno, California → Nashville, Tennessee
Service: Private Ground Journey
Pets: Five cats
Special considerations: Multiple bonded groups, individual space needs, and timing the arrival with the family’s motorhome

A Van Arranged for Five Personalities

We flew to Fresno and loaded the cats into a large van arranged specifically for them. Three bonded cats shared a spacious enclosure with litter, food, and water. The two more independent cats each had their own enclosure, giving them privacy and security without separating the family.

We headed east along Route 66 accompanied by plenty of meowing, purring, and curious looks through the windows. The cats settled into their spaces and traveled remarkably well as the landscape changed around us.

A Comfortable Place to Wait

The family was crossing the country in a large motorhome, and we reached Tennessee before they did. Rather than keeping the cats in the van or rushing the final delivery, we rented an Airbnb where they could stretch out, eat, use their litter boxes, and relax in a large private space.

Once their family arrived and settled in, we completed the final leg and moved all five cats into their new home. Seeing the country with five feline passengers was quite an experience—but the journey worked because every decision was built around their comfort, relationships, and individual needs.
