Jeff’s Journey: Zürich, Switzerland → Washington, DC

When a canceled flight complicated one family’s international move, Jeff the dachshund gained an extra hotel night—and still charmed everyone on his journey home.

Jeff’s mom was returning to the United States after a government reassignment. Between an international move, a toddler, luggage, and all the logistics of starting over in Washington, DC, adding her dachshund’s travel needs to the day was simply too much to manage alone.

We flew to Zürich to meet Jeff and personally accompany him home, allowing his mom to focus on her son and the rest of the family’s move.

Pet: Jeff — dachshund
Special considerations: Same-day flight cancellation and full arrival support

An Unexpected Extra Night

On the morning we were scheduled to leave Switzerland, our flight home was canceled. International travel rarely unfolds exactly as planned, and this was one of those moments when having a dedicated companion mattered most.

We secured a pet-friendly hotel, stayed overnight with Jeff, and were rebooked for the following day. Jeff treated the disruption like a seasoned traveler. Once aboard the new flight, he charmed the cabin crew and behaved like a perfect gentleman all the way across the Atlantic.

More Than an Airport Handoff

After landing in Washington, we stayed with the family through the final logistics. We helped Jeff’s mom gather her luggage, picked up a rental car, and drove everyone to their new apartment.

What began as a request to accompany one small dog became a full-service arrival for a mother, toddler, luggage, and a very lovable dachshund. The journey was built around getting Jeff safely home, but the real goal was helping the whole family make a complicated transition with one less thing to carry alone.
