When Linda decided to leave San Francisco and return home to Ypsilanti, Michigan, she knew her two black cats would be coming with her. Marvin and Duckworth—brothers adopted during the pandemic—had become an inseparable part of her family.
The move would bring Linda closer to family and friends, but getting everyone safely across the country required careful planning. She was especially concerned about how Marvin, who can find handling and unfamiliar situations challenging, would manage a long travel day.

Preparing Two Brothers for a Cross-Country Flight
Before departure, Cabin Companions helped Linda work through the details that can make flying with cats feel overwhelming.
We connected her with veterinarians experienced in travel preparation, recommended appropriate carriers and safety equipment, and helped her identify questions to discuss with her veterinarian. That included working with her veterinary team to develop a medication plan appropriate for Marvin and Duckworth.
Because both cats would remain with people they knew throughout the journey, we arranged our We Fly With You service. Linda would travel with and care for Duckworth, while Gabe would accompany Marvin and provide the additional support he needed.

A Helping Hand From Home to the Airport
On travel day, Gabe flew to San Francisco and met Linda at her home. Together, they gathered Marvin and Duckworth, organized the luggage and travel equipment, and made sure everyone was securely prepared before leaving for San Francisco International Airport.
Airport security was one of the moments Linda had been particularly worried about. Marvin voiced a few objections, but he handled the process well and was soon safely settled back into his carrier.

A Quiet Break at the Delta Sky Club
With security behind them, the group had time to decompress at the Delta Sky Club at SFO before boarding. The cats even received special treat bags decorated with handwritten notes—a thoughtful surprise during a very big day.
Careful preparation meant Linda, Marvin and Duckworth could move through the airport as one coordinated group, with an experienced extra set of hands available whenever needed.

Marvin Comes Through With Flying Colors
The flight from San Francisco to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) was smooth, and Marvin handled the journey beautifully. After landing at DTW, Cabin Companions helped Linda, the cats and their belongings complete the final trip to their new home in Ypsilanti.
By the end of the day, Marvin and Duckworth were safely inside, Linda was home near family and friends, and a journey that had once felt daunting was complete.
Marvin came through with flying colors—and the two brothers began their next chapter together in Michigan.
