Mimi’s Journey: Honolulu, Hawaii → Colorado Springs, Colorado

A last-minute military reassignment sent Mimi on a three-flight journey from Honolulu to her grandmother’s home in Colorado Springs.

Mimi’s mom received a military reassignment and needed last-minute help getting her beloved cat from Honolulu to Colorado Springs, where Mimi would live with her grandmother. The timeline was tight, but we were able to finish another journey in Las Vegas and fly directly to Hawaii to meet her.

Pet: Mimi — cat
Special considerations: Last-minute military move and a multi-flight itinerary

Goodbyes in Honolulu

We met Mimi, her mom, and her grandpa at the Honolulu airport. There were plenty of goodbye kisses before Mimi and I began the long journey to the mainland.

Our route took us from Honolulu to Portland and then Denver. Mimi had strong opinions about flying and made sure everyone nearby heard them. She was a talker from takeoff to landing—but beneath the commentary, she handled an unusually long travel day very well.

Setting Up Her New Home

In Denver, we rented a car and drove Mimi directly to her grandmother’s house in Colorado Springs. We did not simply hand over the carrier and leave. We helped set up her litter and food, gave her time to get oriented, and made sure she was comfortable and cozy before heading back to the airport ourselves.

Mimi’s journey was a true relay between generations: loving goodbyes with her mom and grandpa in Hawaii, then a safe arrival with Grandma in Colorado. Her family later shared their experience in a review from Courtney Swaney.
